How To Throw an Unforgettable Foam Party (From a Foam Party Pro Who’s Seen It All)
If you’ve never been to a foam party before, let me paint the picture.
- Kids laughing
- Mountain of fluffy foam
- Parents standing on the sidelines wondering if anyone would judge them for getting in.

I’m the owner of BK Foam Party, and I throw foam parties all over Greenwood, Indiana and the surrounding areas (Indy, Franklin, Whiteland, Bargersville, Mooresville, Center Grove, Beech Grove and beyond). I specialize in family-friendly foam parties for birthday parties, churches, and preschools.
Today I am breaking down exactly how to throw a foam party.
My first foam party was a DIY machine. Made from zipties, dish detergent, a bounce house blower, and a t-shirt. It kinda worked. It was based on a YouTube video that I had seen, who claimed it was the same… it was not. I thought it was fun. But as I have seen better, I realize the difference that the right machine can make.
My first “real” machine was an Amazon purchase. It came with everything you needed. The machine, a bucket, a stand, and foam powder to make it run well.
Now I run a company that does all of that and more… and better. I have done them all, and I know what does and doesn’t work.
Spoiler alert: both can be fun. One just happens to be a lot easier.
What is a foam party, anyway?
A foam party is exactly what it sounds like… it’s just better.
All machines run mostly the same way. They mix air, water, solution to create could of foam that kids (and adults) can dance, jump, and play in. No judgement for all the adults that want to play. I understand… I do too!
Think
- A bounce house… but softer
- A water party… but more
- A dance party… inside a cloud
Foam parties are perfect for:
- Birthday parties
- School field days
- Church events
- Preschools & Daycares
- Summer parties when it’s HOT
The Two Ways To Throw A Foam Party
Let’s talk options… because not every party (or host) is the same.
Option 1: Amazon Edition
Yes… YOU can throw a foam party yourself. And honestly? It’s fun!
What you’ll need
A foam machine (take it from me… DON’T BUILD one… buy one. The DIY doesn’t work. The foam isn’t as good. You have to worry about electrical problems and water problems). There are a lot of $400-500 options on the market. They do an decent job. And they often have most of what you’ll need.
Here’s where you don’t want to skimp on. Foam solution. Don’t use the powdered stuff that mixes with water. It doesn’t hold up as well. It’s more of a skin irritant.
A water hookup
A power source
A good playlist
Someone willing to operate the machine (and make sure that kids don’t get near the electrical portion of the machine)
Why DIY Parties Are Fun
- Can be a lower cost
- Great for small backyard parties
- You’re in control of timing
- Kids will still lose their minds (foam is foam)
The Limitations of DIY
- Foam output is lighter and less consistent
- You are the only crowd control
- You are operating the equipment instead of enjoying the party
- If something goes wrong… it’s on you
DIY foam parties are kind of like cooking for a big party:
Fun? YES
Relaxing? NO
Why Foam Solution is its own section?
This deserves its own section
No all foam solution is created equal
At BK Foam party, I use professional-grade, hypoallergenic foam solution designed specifically for foam events. It:
- Produces thicker, longer-lasting foam
- Is safe for kids skin
- Makes a HUGE different in foam height and texture
Cheap foam solution is sad foam. Good foam solution makes foam mountains
If you go DIY, this is the one place you should NOT cut corners.
There are 3 major companies that make foam solution. Oh!FX (that’s the stuff I use), FoamDaddy, and SurgeFX (also called Foam Party Supplies). Here’s where it gets a little confusing.
There are multiple TYPE of foam solution. Gel, ready to use, and concentrate. (whatever you use, DON’T use powder as it is NOT hypoallergenic)
Here’s where it gets even more confusing. Some of these solutions are more concentrated than others. Gel needs to be mixed with hot water, then later mixed again with water for the final solution to be used). Concentrate needs to be mixed with water right before using. Ready to use solution needs to be mixed with water right before using as well. Each of these have different amounts of water to be mixed to produce the right amount of foam.
Most of these have instructions on how to do it, even with videos showing you how. Since all of these are different, and every machine can be different, there is a bit of trial and error that is required to get it right. Take that into account for your timing.
